Cannabidiol, or CBD, products are exploding in popularity. Cannabis industry watchers are expecting the market in America to grow to more than $20 billion dollars by 2020.
CBD is now largely legal, thanks to the passage of the farm bill signed into law by President Trump in December of 2018. Even though CBD is not yet supposed to be added to food or drinks, many establishments are doing it anyway. The FDA says plans are underway to allow these products to legally enter the market.
The latest trend in CBD is cocktails infused with cannabidiol.
It started with entrepreneurs like Jonathon Eppers, from Los Angeles, launching CBD infused drinks like Vybes. He has grown distribution to 19 states. Eppers said he created Vybes because he did not want to be anxious every day. He wanted to be more “present and calm”, and CBD does that for him. With sales of more than 1 million bottles in the past year, consumers agree. It seems the antithesis of the energy drink has arrived.
What’s the next logical step after you have a quality CBD soda or drink available in the market? You guessed it. Now restaurants, coffee shops and drinking establishment are incorporating CBD infused products in their menu items.
Ale Mary’s, in Royal Oak, Michigan, now has 3 cocktails on the menu which are mixed using CBD sodas. Nick Ritts, the restaurant owner, says that he finds the drinks “calming and relaxing”.
Mamacha, a New York City café, began by creating CBD laced elixir to celebrate 420. They had people lined up to try out their new cocktail. They realized they were on to something. They now offer 9 specialty drinks, CBD tea, and CBD shots which can be added to any drink.
